Boort Bonanza Next Weekend
03 March 2010
The Boort and Gunbower Harness Racing Clubs can’t be accused of not doing their bit to try and attract horses to contest their feature races of the season.
The two clubs have combined to offer a $1000 bonus to any horse that can win both the Boort and Gunbower Pacing Cups or both the Boort and Gunbower Trotting Cups.
The first legs of the double will be run on Sunday, March 14 when the $12,000 Loddon Valley Stud Boort Pacing Cup and $12,000 Doyle’s Boomspraying Boort Trotters Cup are run at Bendigo. Gunbower’s features will be run the following Sunday at Echuca.
“Our Cups are only a week apart and we thought this would be good a way of encouraging trainers to target both races while adding to the profile of both races in the process,” BHRC president John Campbell said.
Nominations for the Boort card close at noon on Tuesday with fields declared the following day.
The double will add interest to both meetings, but there is much more than just bonus prizemoney up for grabs at next weekend’s Boort fixture.
Several racegoers will also hit the jackpot with a number of giveaways, including a pair of five-day trips to the Gold Coast for two people.
Youngsters haven’t been forgotten with a boys and a girls bike to also be given away.
The usual children’s activities of jumping castle, face painting and Poppy the harness mascot will be there along with the popular Pony Trots.
There are also plenty of activities for the adults, including live music and punters club, while dining packages are available for $40 but need to be booked with either John Davidson on 5437 8330 or John Campbell on 0437 077 887.
Bookings are also being taken for seats on the courtesy buses that will run from Boort to Bendigo and back on the day.
The first race isn’t until around 5.30pm, but the there will be a Happy Hour for BHRC members from 4.30pm.
Gates open at 4pm with entry just $8 for adults, $4 concession with children under 18 admitted free.
