Victorian harness racing bid farewell to its metropolitan presence last Saturday night at Moonee Valley and attention now turns to the country.

Terang’s Dalvui Raceway will host the feature meeting of this weekend with the Terang & District Co-Op Cup to be run on Saturday night.
The $25,000 event has been won by superstars including Blacks A Fake and Sokyola and looks like attracting another cracking field.
Among the 26 entries for the 2680-metre mobile race are BIG6 Hunter Cup also-rans Smoken Up, Ohoka Nevada and Ti Vogliobene, while Saturday night’s dashing Angelique Club Cup winner Mendelico is also nominated.
The pacing feature is the headline event on a nine-race card that includes the Barastoc Terang Trotters Cup. Inter Dominion finalists Bete Noire, Dream A Moment, Joe Bro and Red Samurai are among the entries for that race.
Acceptances are taken at 8.30am tomorrow with final fields declared later that morning.
But Terang Cup night isn’t just about what happens on the track and the THRC has a monster night planned with a host of on-course activities to keep racegoers young and old entertained between races.
Prizes to the value of $2500 will be given away in racebook competitions, while there will be live music between races throughout the night.
And the youngsters haven’t been forgotten with jumping castle, face painting, spinning wheel and a merry-go-round among the amusements, while the first 100 kids through the gate will receive a free showbag.
Terang Harness Racing Club secretary Elizabeth Clarke said everything pointed towards the meeting being another highlight of the local sporting calendar.
“Saturday night’s final Moonee Valley meeting gave harness racing some awesome publicity and we’re hopeful that interest will carry over to this weekend,” Clarke said.
“The Terang & District Co-Op Cup always attracts a quality field and this year looks to be no exception, plus we’ve got something for everyone in the way of entertainment, so we’re hopeful of another memorable night.”
Gates open at 4pm with admission just $10 for adults, $5 concession with children admitted free.
